Sarmiento celebrates 115 years of life and recalls its evolution in Argentine football, from its founding in 1911 to its current participation in the Professional League. The club was founded in 1911 by a group of enthusiasts who created the Sarmiento Football Club, and 22 years later, on January 27, 1933, the assembly approved the name change to Club Atlético Sarmiento. Before entering professional football, it had a very good participation in amateur football. In 1917, the first official championship of the League was organized, with Sarmiento as the first champion. Between 1917 and 1950, it obtained 13 championships of the Liga Deportiva del Oeste (Local League). In 1945, it qualified to play the Copa de la República as one of the representatives of the non-affiliated teams of the province of Buenos Aires, reaching the quarterfinals and being eliminated by Boca. In 1950, during the presidency of Valentín Suárez in the AFA, a project was launched to affiliate each year a club from the interior close to the Federal Capital. After the failed attempt of 1951, Sarmiento was postulated by the petition of Juan Ramón Duarte, brother of the first lady Eva Perón and sympathizer of the club of his native city. In this way, Sarmiento was incorporated into the 1952 season of the First B. In 1974, Sarmiento ascended from the First C to the First Division B, second category of Argentine football. Its next ascension took place in 1977 already participating in AFA as affiliated, since it managed to assemble a balanced team, with offensive capacity and firm defense. The coach was Héctor Silva in the two ascensions. To highlight his task is that, for the first time in 18 years, the same DT began and ended a championship in Sarmiento without being replaced. In 1980, the most important event in Sarmiento's history took place: it won the First B championship and the ascension to the First Division of Argentina for the first time in its history. After two seasons in First A, it returned to First B. In the 1990-91 season, it ascended to the First B Metropolitana, after winning the octagonal final of its division. In the seasons 1992-93 and 1995-96, it achieved ascension to the First B Nacional. After seven years in the B Metropolitana and achieving the first place, it returned to the B Nacional. In 2014, under the leadership of an experienced director of the ascension like Sergio Lippi, it returned to the elite football of our country. After bad campaigns, the Junín club lost the category in the 2016-17 season. The return to the maximum category of Argentine football took place in the 2019-2020 season under the hand of Mario Sciacqua, category in which it is currently. As a relevant fact, in 2021 the Reserve of the club was crowned national champion, achieving a historic title for the entire city.
